AI-assisted features

This page shows where Nestbalm uses an AI model, what it sends, and how to switch it off.

Two features in Nestbalm are AI-assisted. Everything else, including OFX, QFX, CSV, CAMT.053 and MT940 imports, works without any AI model.

Feature What it does for your household AI model Page
Vesper, your family’s private assistant Answers questions about your budget, pockets and transactions in a chat window Anthropic Claude, run by Google Cloud Vertex AI in the EU. If Claude is unavailable, Google Gemini on Vertex AI in the EU answers instead. Asking Vesper
PDF statement reading Reads a PDF bank statement and turns it into transactions Anthropic Claude, run by Google Cloud Vertex AI in the EU Importing a PDF statement

A pocket is a place in your budget where you tuck money for one purpose. For example, €200 tucked into the Groceries pocket is set aside for groceries.

Nestbalm sends nothing to an AI model until you allow it. The first time you open Vesper or upload a PDF statement, Nestbalm asks for your permission.

  • One permission covers both features.
  • Each family member decides for themselves. If Anna allows it, Boris is still asked the first time he opens Vesper.
  • If you select Not now, nothing is sent. Vesper does not answer, and PDF statements are not uploaded. Every other part of Nestbalm keeps working.
  • Vesper sends your question and the household data needed to answer it, such as balances, pockets and transactions.
  • PDF statement reading sends the text of the statement you upload. It sends nothing else from your household.
  • Under the Google Cloud Vertex AI terms, this data is not used to train AI models.
  1. Open Profile → Data & privacy.
  2. Switch off AI processing. From now on, Nestbalm sends nothing more to an AI model for you. Vesper and PDF import pause until you allow them again.

Withdrawing affects only you. Other family members keep their own choice. Transactions already imported from a PDF stay in your budget.
