Setting up Nestling for a kid
This page shows how to set up Nestling for one kid and connect the kid’s phone or tablet.
The owner of the household account does this once per kid. Nestling is part of the Family plan.
An allowance is money a kid gets every week from the household. For example, €10 every Sunday.
In Nestling the allowance has three parts: Give, Spend and Save. Give is for gifts to someone in need. Spend is for things the kid wants. Save stays for the long term.
A household task is a small, regular job the kid agrees to do each week. For example, feeding the cat. The allowance is paid when the week’s tasks are done and a parent approves the week.
Setting up a kid
Section titled “Setting up a kid”- Open Nestling in the menu.
- Select Set up the first kid. If the household already has a kid in Nestling, select Add another kid.
- In Nickname, type a nickname for the kid. Nestling needs no real name and no age. To get an idea, select Suggest one.
- Choose an Avatar.
- In Weekly amount, type the allowance. For example,
10. - Under Split between the pockets, set the percentages for Give, Spend and Save. They must add up to 100%. The form shows what each part gets every week.
- In Your match on Save, set the match. A match is money the parents add on top of the Save part. For example, a 20% match on €5 for Save adds €1.
- In Approval day, choose the day the week ends. On that day you approve the week.
- In Empty the Spend pocket, choose Monthly, Quarterly or Whenever we decide. Nestling reminds you when that time comes.
- Under Household tasks (1 to 3), type at least one task. Select Add a task for a second or third.
- Select Create. The kid’s page opens, and the kid appears on Nestling and on your Home page.
You can change the contract later. On the kid’s page, select Edit contract. Only the owner can change it; both parents can approve weeks.
Connecting the kid’s device
Section titled “Connecting the kid’s device”The kid uses Nestling on a phone or tablet you connect. The kid needs no account and no email. The device sees only this kid’s Nestling screens, never your budget or accounts.
- On the kid’s page, select Connect a device. A QR code and a code of 10 letters and numbers appear. The code works once, for 15 minutes.
- On the kid’s device, scan the QR code with the camera. If scanning does not work, open
app.nestbalm.com/nestin its browser and type the code. - On the kid’s device, choose a 4-digit parent PIN and select Save PIN. The parent PIN opens the settings on that device, so the kid cannot disconnect it by accident.
The device now shows the kid’s Give, Spend and Save, the week’s tasks, and a forest that grows with the savings.
What changed
Section titled “What changed”The kid appears for everyone in your household. Nothing is taken from your bank account: Nestling keeps its own record and never adds transactions to your budget.
To disconnect a device, select Disconnect next to it on the kid’s page. It stops working at once. You can connect it again with a new code. Removing a kid from Nestling disconnects all of the kid’s devices.
Next steps
Section titled “Next steps”- Read Running the Nestling week for approving tasks and paying the allowance.
